Are you struggling with an autoimmune disease? Find out how naturopathy and herbal medicine can help you manage your symptoms.
Looking forward to boosting your immune system by optimising your diet and/or with simple lifestyle changes?  We can help you finding the right diet, supplements or herbs to get your body work on an optimal way.

The immune system is an intelligent, subtle and powerful system involving a lot of different organs and glands. It is not just a matter of balance of germs versus our own microflora and wether they can cope with invasion.
We have many automatic and natural defence systems for dealing with viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other foreign bodies.
You can optimise these defences by feeding your body the appropriate nutrients. Immune-supporting foods such as garlic, ginger, turmeric, kiwis, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, berries, green leafy vegetables, mushrooms, nuts and seeds can make a big difference in how your body reacts to foreign pathogens.

The importance of gut health :
Your large intestine hosts a community of around 100 trillion microbes. The main function of our microflora is to help us digesting food and extracting the nutrients for our body to use. These beneficial microorganisms help our Immune System work efficiently as they protect us against pathogens. 70% of your Immune System resides in the gut. Any imbalance in your gastrointestinal system or with your gut microflora could lead to Immune System issues, including inflammation and autoimmune conditions. You may also become more susceptible to viruses and bacteria.

You may experience enlarged or painful lymph nodes :
this could be as a result of the immune system trying to deal with an acute illness, or a chronic long term infection.
An original infection may leave scars on the lymph nodes or the immune system, leading to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

An autoimmune disease is defined as an immune reaction against one’s own tissues.  A robust immune system needs to fight foreign invaders but not harm ourselves in the process. The cause is still unknown but we now know more and more about it and all the contributing factors. Autoimmune diseases must be viewed as multi-factorial conditions and your naturopath will take the time to identify all the factors and help you deal with your condition from a wholistic perspective.
We know that all autoimmune diseases have systemic inflammation caused by your immune system that has gone off the rails and is attacking the body instead of fighting off infections, toxins, allergens etc.

In naturopathic medicine, we ask why the body is out of balance, we seek to find the driver of the inflammation, and how do we help it get back into balance. Once all the underlying issues have been identified, the natural treatment can commence, addressing the inflammation and thereby kicking off the healing of the body. We approach the body as a whole system, everything is linked, to help us restoring your whole body balance. It is only by taking a full case history, including lifestyle, diet, environmental exposures, family history etc. that potential triggers of inflammation and immune irritants can be identified.
We offer a targeted, personalised, focused treatment, to come up together with a comprehensive treatment plan for long term health.
We combine nutrition : we know that proteins, vitamins and minerals combine to make our immune cells ; nutrition supplementation and herbal remedies : numerous botanical medicines which can modulate the immune system (clinical data has demonstrated specific herbs can be beneficial for specific autoimmune conditions) ; lifestyle changes : there’s a significant link between stress disorders and autoimmune conditions, to modulate your immune system and consequently autoimmune disease.

Astragalus membranaceus (Milk vetch, Huang qi)

Native to China, Korea, Mongolia and Siberia, it is a strong antioxidant, an energy tonic and immune modulator. It appears to raise immune resistance, increase stamina and endurance by helping the body to adapt to external stressful influences.
Traditionally used to combat chronic bacterial or viral infections, it can also be useful as a cardio tonic or in the management of certain autoimmune diseases.
